Many MANY weeks ago, I made my first purchase on my-wardrobe.com and bought the perfect summer sandals. I know, hooray indeed. Designed by 3.1 Phillip Lim, whose items are permanent features on my wishlist, these babies finally pushed me into purchasing. Perfectly formed, featuring a flash of silver that’s going to pop in the summer sun, these beauties came super quick and certainly didn’t disappoint. Sadly they’re still boxed up, waiting for weather good enough to wear them out in! We were taunted with a wonderful week of sunshine recently, only for it to be callously snatched away and replaced with hail and even snow!? Until Berlin gets its act together, “my preciouses” (said in a Gollum stylee) aren’t seeing the light of day – so outfit posts will have to wait I’m afraid!

We’re happy to present überlin Eau de Perfume, now available from Frau Tonis Parfum!
We were a little intimidated when the luxury perfumery invited us into their Berlin boutique to create a unique scent of our own. After all, we had never done anything like this before, and our idea to capture the fragrance of this fair Stadt evaporated when we found out what you think Berlin smells like! But even though I had to be asked to get rid of my cherry Hubba Bubba (so common!), we were soon having fun and learning a surprising amount.
Following the instructions of our friendly, expert host Jenny, we started picking out perfumes that could be combined to form our scent. We sampled each of the forty or so essences in turn, working up from subtle citrus or floral fragrances towards stronger spicy and woody aromas, resetting our noses’ “palettes” every so often by sniffing (mmm) coffee beans. When we had a shortlist of six, Jenny presented us with combinations that might appeal to our now finely-tuned sense of smell.
We’re really pleased with the end result: a light unisex fragrance that we both can wear. We used tulip (which Italians apparently consider a masculine scent) as the opener for a base combination of Larissa (“warm, oriental, intense”) and Seigneur, a new spring scent comprised of nutmeg, violet, vanilla and leather. If you like the sound of that, you can buy überlin from Frau Tonis Parfum – just ask for it by name when you speak to them.
And if you want to create a fragrance of your own, we totally recommend the experience. The beautiful Frau Tonis boutique is just around the corner from Checkpoint Charlie, which makes it the perfect diversion for anyone who’s had enough of Berlin’s tourist spots and wants to take away a unique, luxurious souvenir.
Smell you later!

If you follow us on Twitter, you might have caught me whinging about the death of my old Macbook and the teething troubles I’ve been having with my new one. My black 13″ with its moustache decal was more than just a tool, it was a signal to other hipster douchebags that I’m one of them. The transition to a new laptop’s been tough, but it’s been helped by a couple of things: the property of… travel bag Zoë gave me for Christmas, and this Incase X Shepard Fairey sleeve, a kind gift from the brand itself. I fell in love with Fairey’s capsule collection at the Incase stand at Bread & Butter, and this canvas sleeve with its petrol blue OBEY GIANT pattern outside and glossy embossed lining is the ideal hipster accessory. Now I just need a decal with the Ghostly record label logo on, and I’m set!

Our recent trip to Stockholm was a feast for the eyes, but it wasn’t just the scenery that was stunning, but also the flagship store of my current brand crush, Acne. For me, the fashion house embodies the Stockholm aesthetic of effortlessly cool minimalism, so it would have been a crime not to visit them in their hometown. The staff were super nice, super hot (damn you Swedes!) and even allowed me to take some photos to remember them by. In between my drooling and staring (at the collection, of course), I bagged myself two pairs of jeans and the most perfect leather jacket. Even better, because their prices are so much cheaper in Sweden than in Germany or the UK, I was saving money! … At least that’s what I tell myself. Looking at their Spring Summer 2012 collection I think another trip to Stockholm might be in order as well, hooray!
